Epidemiological characteristics and mortality risk factors among COVID-19 patients in Ardabil, Northwest of Iran

Abstract Background Coronavirus disease highly contagious, is prevalent in all age and sex groups infecting the respiratory system. The present study seeks to investigate epidemiology effective factors mortality of patients with COVID-19 Ardabil province, northwestern Iran. Methods In a retrospective study, hospitalized laboratory-diagnosed between February August 2020 were enrolled. data registration portal was designated according Iranian Ministry Health Medical Education guidelines. this portal, demographic information, clinical presentation, laboratory imaging registered for hospitals same format. Hosmer-Lemeshow strategy used variable selection multiple model. Results Of involved 2812(50.3%) male 150 (2.7%) had contact confirmed case last 14 days. Pre-existing comorbidity reported 1310 (23.4%) patients. patients, 477(8.5%) died due COVID-19. result logistic regression model indicated that after adjusting other factors, higher (OR = 3.11), fever or chills 1.61), shortness breath 1.82), fatigue 0.71), headache 0.64), runny nose 1.54), Skeletal muscle pain 1.53), hospitalization 5.66), ICU 5.12) associated death. Conclusions Hospitalization strongest effect on followed by ICU, age. This showed having some extra-pulmonary symptoms contrast pulmonary can predict as good prognostic factors.
